Posted - 14/02/2011 : 21:09:07 Woah, missed this way down here. Lilu, regular handling is definitely the key. The snakes perceive you as a threat and bite to drive you away. Regular, gentle handling will reassure them that you are not about to eat them. ;-) If you do not put them down when they bite, they will eventually learn not to waste energy doing it. Good luck! |

Posted - 30/01/2011 : 19:33:26 I work with several hundred adults and most are quite tempermental. I ended up having the company purchase me some very thick elbow length gloves and they are unable to penetrate them. It just got ridiculous to be bitten over and over so this is how I solved my problem with them. I know these are your pets. But, perhaps if you begin handling them again with the gloves and they realize that striking at you isn't going to make you go away or stop handling them, they may get less nippy. I have noticed this in the ones I work with.
I brought home a 1 year old female last week. Out of about 500 babies of various ages she was the sweetest and acts like a ball python, which is what I was considering as they are so docile about being handled.
Hope it works out for you. The adults can give a fairly mean bite. |
