i have 2 big problems and they keep trying to bite me.i have 2 brb one male and one female, they now live in sep vivs, but i cant go near them, when i do they come straight to glass, i dont mean slowly i mean fast and if i dare go in viv they go for blood both of them . i know that iganas bite and strike females on their menstral cycle. im having hormone injections and the biting started at the same time ? long shot but if it isnt i dont know what to do. please help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

just an update for u snakesitter, i can get my male out of viv now with out gloves, he is a bite tetchy but coming on leeps and bounds, thank u for your help x

snakesitter, i will need all the luck i can get lol, i can handle the famale but the male is going to bite , but once iv got over the first bite i should be fine, but its def going to be gloves on and brave, be brave lol.

Woah, missed this way down here. Lilu, regular handling is definitely the key. The snakes perceive you as a threat and bite to drive you away. Regular, gentle handling will reassure them that you are not about to eat them. ;-) If you do not put them down when they bite, they will eventually learn not to waste energy doing it. Good luck!

thank you flaboye, i managed to stroke her today without her striking so i think she may accept me picking her up,, i def dont want to be bite every day lol,

I work with several hundred adults and most are quite tempermental. I ended up having the company purchase me some very thick elbow length gloves and they are unable to penetrate them. It just got ridiculous to be bitten over and over so this is how I solved my problem with them. I know these are your pets. But, perhaps if you begin handling them again with the gloves and they realize that striking at you isn't going to make you go away or stop handling them, they may get less nippy. I have noticed this in the ones I work with.

I brought home a 1 year old female last week. Out of about 500 babies of various ages she was the sweetest and acts like a ball python, which is what I was considering as they are so docile about being handled.

Hope it works out for you. The adults can give a fairly mean bite.

they are 7 year old and have just started striking at me. they have not tried before. when they were hatchlings they did, but that stopped.its becoming a problem im having trouble cleaning the viv. but i will persist with them .
