Last night Feather was out and about when I fed her, so I offered her the rat rather than just leaving it for her. She struck and constricted within a couple of seconds, and then proceeded to scoff it. So I have finally seen her eat!  |

Feather is now consistently strike feeding, and has started to constrict too. She's learning how to eat like a big girl! She has also gone up a food size from rat fuzzies to small mice and she is starting to fill out. I'll be looking to get her back onto rats, but the shop didn't have any the right size.
I'll try and remember to get some photos next time she's out. |

She struck again the other night, no constriction this time but she hit it almost immediately. It was a case of "What's that? Oh, it's dinner!" Bam!  |

I'll continue to let her strike if she wants to then. I do think that boas are the way forward, royals are very cute but they spend far too much time hiding. |

I put my boas in a RUB and then offer them the rat and they virtually always strike. It doesn't bother me that they will continue to do this when they get larger as they have got a fantastic aim on them |

I would let her strike. When shes bigger she will probably be on newspaper? At that point I would just feed her in the viv. |

Sadly no, I was kind of surprised that she struck so I wasn't ready with a camera. If she continues I'll try and get some pics though. Speaking of which, should I be encouraging her to strike feed? I've read a discussion on the Dark Side that said that with large snakes it was better if they didn't strike, but then someone said that with boas you didn't often get the choice as if they smelled food they'd have it before you had chance to lay it down for them. How do you guys feed yours?
She is an absolute star, I got her out the other night and she seems so laid back when she's being handled! She has a bit of an explore then gets comfy and I'm sure a couple of times she's had a doze while I've been holding her. Then she'll have another bit of a wander, then settle down again. She actually seems to like being held, and is often reluctant to go back into her faun. She's a world apart from Princess who constantly seems to be looking for an escape route and shoots back into her cave as soon as it's within range. I'd probably get banned from TRP for saying this, but I think I prefer boas.  |
