Last night Feather decided that simply striking and constricting her mouse was insufficient, and decided to combine this with drowning it in her water bowl! There was a battle of wills to see which one could stay under longest, the mouse being the favourite to win what with it already being very dead. Sure enough, after 30 seconds or so (and a few bubbles!) she dragged it out and proceeded to eat the now sopping rodent. Daft article!  |

Glad you like the name Kehhlyr, not everyone spots it straightaway. 
Feather doesn't like to move after she's eaten, she slinks into her cave and then stays there for a couple of days with her nose poking out. She was doing that at feeding time yesterday, so I thought I'd just lay the mouse down for her but she shot out and nailed it anyway.
I'm not worried about her thinking I'm food to be honest, she's used to me going into her faun to change the water, pick up poos, get her out for handling etc. That said, if I'm ever proven wrong I'll post pics of the bite! |

Hmm interesting idea. I think they have some sort of internal time tracking system. I know dogs and cats do.
Although with Elvira she seems to just move a lot more after she digest (makes sense she has energy at that point) and especially after pooping. I guess she feels a lot lighter hehe. Her last poop was big! She looked at it afterwards as if surprised that came out of her.
At the moment it is not too much of a pain to shift her I am sure when she gets bigger it will be. We open the tank and pet her all the time though so I doubt she would associate us opening the tank with food. I was following what I see people here say to do. People in different places have different ideas and practices though. At some point she will get too big to shift anyway so she will end up getting fed in the tank at that point. |

I actually had an issue like that with one of my corns when I got her Chaos, I started varying the feeding day.
She used to be fed every 12 days bang on. So I varied it to 10, 15, 8, 20 etc until she was less accustomed to it.
Although I don't think that they have the ability to count days, they just seem to know. |

I was feeding Elvira in her tank at first and then I noticed around the feeding day (before I even took the rats out of the freezer) she would start stalking our motions around her tank. She would just keep her eyes glued to us. She's never tried to bite either of us but it made me a bit wary so I started putting her in the rubbermaid tub adn that behavior stopped. Whatever works for your personal snake and situation should be what you do. |

I personally feed all of mine out of the viv, and until Marshmallow gets to big to have to move back into viv afterwards, then I'll probably feed him out of the viv as well.

I think it's all personal choice really. I feed mine outside the viv, but then most of them are corns and kings, so it's a whole different ball game than with a large boa.
Just do whatever you feel most comfortable with, but be mindful of the substrate issues |

I was wondering about feeding her out of the viv myself, but after reading this thread on the Dark Side I decided that it was probably for the best to just stick to feeding her in it.

It may be safer to feed them in a container other than their viv that they stay in. Most snake keepeers here in the States do that. It keeps the snake from associating you opening the viv door with food. I put Elvira in a big Rubbermaid tub and feed her. She is starting to understand that the tub means food because as soon as she gets settled in there she is looking up for food.
Just a suggestion.

the royal i just sold on used to do that, and Bo does it too...........
but i think it's down to where i put their water bowls, lol, right in the viv entrance, where i wiggle the food!! |
