Hi
my Kenyan sand boa refused his first feed on sat. We have had him just over a week
and he hasn't eaten in nearly 2 weeks due to us letting him settle in. I'm going to handle him a bit for the next few days so he is more relaxed with me then try again wednesday. If anyone has any advice let me know.

Ade

Hi,
Mine refused to eat for 15 weeks, I kept a close eye on her weight and finally got her to eat by dipping her food in a beaten egg then feeding her in a separate room from the other snakes just in case their sent put her off. This has worked since. Hope it helps.

to soniadpw, you could try scenting as young ksb in the wild eat a lot of small lizards. it can work well, or differan colour pray (i have a royal who will only eat black rats of a certain size). Try differant size food. mice or rats. try feeding in a small dark container. try putting in more than one food item and let it choose.
try all of these things, and if they dont work DONT panic. as a last resort you can assisst feed or after thet you could live feed until you ksb is an established feeder.
hope this has helped. jono

i wouldnt handle a new non feeding snake of any species. it stresses them out even more. get it feeding first then handle. im no expert but that seems to be the advice given in general.

I too am having the same problem with my KSB, she is 2009 baby, i have had her about 5 weeks now and still cannot get her to eat.

I have tried putting her food in her hide, no luck. I have also tried warming her food up, now she did have a good circle round it, but still did not eat.

My new plan consists of turning her heat up a little (already done), and then im going to 'brain' the next meal and dangle it in front of her with the tweezers. If that fails then ill have to see what else i can come up with.

I was going to suggest leaving off handling until he's fed, but I don't know if this applies to all species.

I wouldn't worry about it at this stage. Many sankes get stressed when they first arrive at a new home, but most will begin to eat again once they've settled in.

Just keep us informed
