Posted - 08/01/2012 : 23:34:52 Hi folks I'm using Eco earth for the first time in my 4ft viv how often will I have to replace the substrate? Someone told me this stuff is safe to leave in for months if regularly spot cleaned...? And that it can be reused if boiled? That can't be right can it? any advice would be much appreciated. Flynn. =D |

Posted - 13/01/2012 : 08:17:20 Hi Flynn, I have used Eco earth in the past and it worked well for me but as Cliff mentions above it does create a secondary cleaning chore as is messy, so if you are using it for a couple of snakes thats fine! I can second that it can be spot cleaned and then fully replaced after 2 to 3 months, but would also say no to reuse after that time, its really not worth the risk for the little cost involved in replacing it. Good luck |

Posted - 09/01/2012 : 21:02:33 Hi Flynn! I've never used it myself, but the reviews I've read have been decidedly mixed -- apparently, it gets all over the place, creating a secondary cleaning chore. Substrates can generally be spot-cleaned as needed, and then changed out entirely once a quarter. I've never reused any, and frankly there is no point -- the "cost" in time and effort far outweighs the monetary cost of just buying more. Best of luck! |
