Hi guys!

My BRB is 6.5 months old now, and I have some I was hoping all you folks can maybe shed some light on:

1. how big/ heavy should he be now? I've not really been monitoring his weight/ size, but I feed him once a week, and he has been growing consistently, and he's about 1.5ft long now, and about the thickness of my finger. I don't know if he's underweight/overweight or what.

2. I'm a bit concerned I'm not getting his living quarters good. I've got him in a RUB right now, and heat mat under half of it. I have little stick on thermometers on both opposite walls, but the temperature difference seems to be only about 21C on cold side and 26C on the warm side. Is this enough of a gradient? Also, the thermometers are stuck up near the lid, so I'm concerned they're not recording an accurate temperature on the box floor.

3. I'm using orchid bark for substrate, and I have about an inch of it on the bottom of the box. However, I'm noticing that because the environment is so humid, water is condensing onto the bottom of the box, and is pooling about 1/2 inch on the bottom. Should I try to dry it out using towels or something, or should I leave it like this?

4. One last thing - I've read in lots of places that BRBs can be quite nippy when babies, but my snake hasn't bitten me yet at all. I'm worried he's going to get big, and then bite me.

Thanks all!

Hi Emby!

At six-ish months old -- and I'm going by memory here, so may be a bit off -- they usually weigh somewhere around 90 grams.

Move the thermometers closer to the ground level, which is where the snake lives. Otherwise, that temp range is fine -- maybe another degree warmer on the hot end, but otherwise perfect.

Condensation is a good thing, but full-on standing water throughout a viv is not. Try and siphon some of that off.

They rarely get nippier as tey age, so as long as you keep handling him regularly, he should be fine.

Good luck!
