So I know there are other threads which talk about food in general but I'm interested in whether anyone varies the food they use to keep things interesting.

The question comes from the fact that I had been considering giving a chick but have recently heard (not sure how reliable it is) that feeding a BRB a chick can lead to runny poo....

I can't imagine the chick would be much more than that equivalent of a ham sandwich but do want to find a way of keeping it fresh....

I look forward to ideas and opinions.

Brian

Thanks for the responses guys!

I will avoid the chicks as sloppy poo cannot be a good sign of anything!

Great to be able to get real experienced opinions on tap here...thanks for all the time you guys take!

I will remember that at Thanksgiving: the end of fowl is foul, if you follow.

Fact: fowl does make a mess coming out, and it's not something you want to consider as a staple. As an occasional treat it's fine, but I would recommend making those particular treats few and far between :)

I think I'd be too afraid that Marius would decide all he wanted was chicks and they're not so easy for me to get around here. :D Then knowing my luck...he'd decide to starve himself to death before eating another mouse/rat. I know we think it's boring to have to eat the same thing every feeding day...but I am more inclined to believe that the snake doesn't know the difference between changing up the meals. They don't have that refined of a palate. Or well....I would think not. lol!

I have heard, via the grapevine, that anything with large amounts of feathers can indeed lead to (runnier) poo. I have not managed to test that rumor yet though. I am an advocate of changing up the prey type to give snakes some variety (rats, mice, and chicks being the options, quail if you really want to go the distance in time and cost), but be aware this does carry risks -- if an animal loves one of the new options, they may decide that is *all* they want, and thus precipitate a battle of wills. Good luck!
