Thanks Cliff, if any one else could shed any light as to weather a normal standard vivarium ( with all joints sealed up )would be appropriate for housing a brb i would really appreciate it
thanks

Oh, OK -- now I got it, and have heard of it in the US. :D My understanding is that it has several drawbacks, including weight and that it is not great for humidity unless sealed all over. However, I've never personally worked with a tank made of it, so can't be 100% sure. Anyone else?

hi cliff, sorry mate im not very good at this explaining stuff am i yes it probably is a UK thing...i think its basically veneered chip board standard viv .. try www.vivexotic .co.uk it might be easier for you see it to see if its up to the job , don't want to get a brb only to find its not suitable
thanks

I'm not familar with "malamine"? Is it a UK term?
pat Posted - 27/11/2012 : 21:19:52
thanks for the advice and yes ive cleaned and disinfected a few times since she passed and will again befor any new arrival, sorry, i dont think i made myself very clear in my previous post, my empty viv is a malamine one sealed at the joints with the proper sealant (4ftx2x2)would a brb be ok in there or would it be best to use a plastic one only...sorry for any confusion

Hi Pat, and welcome to the forums!

Plastic enclosures are actually the best option. While glass tanks can work due to their excellent control of humidity, they score poorly on both temperature maintenance and privacy for these secretive snakes. If you do use glass, remember three key alternations:
1. Replace any screen top with a plexiglass one
2. Apply a decorative background to at least three sides to provide privacy
3. Consider applying an insulating material such as Reflectix, *if* temperatures in the surrounding room get low

Also, as another snake died in yours, I would thoroughly clean and disinfect it before housing a new resident there.

Good luck!

Hi Pat. We have our BRB housed in a 4ft viv and she really seems to be comfortable. I'm still very much an amateur at this though, although I'm sure you'll get plenty of excellent advice on this forum!
:)
