Posted - 27/11/2012 : 19:02:24 Hi all! Quick question, Arco is now 148grammes and 41inches in length. 'Supposedly' she's nearly 20 months. Is this average? Just wondering! She's feeding on medium mice at the minute every 9-10 days. :) |

Posted - 03/12/2012 : 21:11:33 I never measure length, so sadly cannot be much help there. |

Posted - 30/11/2012 : 23:11:53 Thanks Cliff. I did figure that. How long do you reckon an 8month old should be though on average? Just a guess? Hate not knowing how old Arco is. She does seem to be thriving so I'm not overly concerned but just curious I guess!! |

Posted - 29/11/2012 : 20:26:27 No, as with many pets, it's more or less impossible to determine age with any certainty. She could be younger than you were told...or older and just underfed at first. At any rate, with extra food she should start putting on weight for you. Just remember not to offer anything wider than she is at her thickest point. Good luck! |

Posted - 29/11/2012 : 12:11:24 Thanks for the advice Cliff. Is there any way of determining her age? Would this have to be done by a vet? You have seen some pictures of her, do you reckon you could hazard a guess as to her age? Just curious really. I don't think she's underweight but then again I don't know her age. She always feeds and only ever refuses if in shed. We will defiantly start feeding every 7days now. We only upgraded her food about three weeks ago so were a little bit dubious about feeding every 7 days! Thanks again for the brill advice :) |

Posted - 28/11/2012 : 19:12:01 According to my records, by 20 months of age 500 grams is more normal, with a range of 211 to 881. I did feed more heavily in my earier days, so the more recent snakes have averaged less...but 148 grams would be very light for that age. Part of it may be due to her being younger than you were told, or maybe due to a slow start at the original owner/store. However, part of it is current feeding fequency -- I'd give her a full-sized mouse once every seven days at this point, which will equate to 50% more calories for growth. Good luck -- she'll get there eventually! :-) |
