Heard about a rep shop nearby today that I didn't realize existed, so wandered down to take a look. Wandered in and first thought was "Wow, lots of species!", then "Hmmm we're co-habiting different species.".

Asked about a young Bci only to be told that it was a Royal ("...because boas have red tails and this snake doesn't.")! I must have looked astounded, so I recieved further assurance that it was one of the many different morphs! God knows what it was co-habited with, I couldn't see the head of the 2nd snake but the body was solid colour and not Bci-like.

There was also a corn co-habiting with a Bairds-Corn cross.

Not sure the shop owner knew enough about his stock! The snakes seemed healthy but not sure how they felt about their viv-mates. Feeling sorry for anyone that buys the "royal" expecting it to stay relatively small.

I agree, naming is not the way to go. It opens all sorts of bad doors, among them legal liability for the forum.

Sorry everyone, I never intended to name the place, only badness and arguments lie in that direction! Just wanted to share my shock.

Although it sounds twee, I kind of see it like as owners we can be ambassadors for rep owners and educate people if they've been unfortunate enough to purchase off these places. Can understand your feelings though Danny

what shop was it, would like to go down and have a look if it is near me and tell them a bit about about reptiles

Not great is it, and definately doesn't inspire any confidance. I'm hearing more and more stories about things like this happening with snakes, lizards and geckos, often leading to the animal becoming ill due to inappropriate care. Rubbish!

Blimey that is incredible.

Uugh. I can't tell whether I'm more angry, disgusted, upset or sad. Put that shop keeper on the phone...

Thanks Snakesitter I've heard from others that this is quite common to G. It saddens me that people with a low knowledge base are providing these reptiles to potentially novice owners and offering incorrect guidance and infomation.

At least there are forums like this one that can set people straight! I wasn't in any rush to correct the store owner...he seemed a little impatient that I questioned the snakes species twice!

I agree, Graeme! Newbie, great report!

unreal, but in all honestly with some shops it just doesn't surprise me.
