Posted - 31/03/2009 : 19:06:16 HOORAY!! finally picked up my new brb yesterday its a 4-5 month old female who i named Kirra, don't know why, but i just like that name (surf spot in australia ) she went right into one of her hides, but 30 minutes later when her light shut off, she was out exploring, and climbing her branch, and hitting up the water bowl... so exciting!!! ... her first spot behind her head is in the shape of a 'J' which i thought was pretty cool as it's my first initial .. i had her out again today just so i could change up some things in her home, and still havent been bitten, even though im somewhat expecting it while she's this little... i still need to pick up some moss, or shop towels to make her 'humid hide', and i think i might need a slightly hotter spot bulb, as it's only about 81F on the warm side during the day. i'll have to pick that stuff up here in the next couple days, but not too much other than that... just thought i'd share the exciting news!! |

Posted - 06/04/2009 : 21:29:01 I would try it as soon as possible really, just because it might take a while to make the transition and it might be easier with her being quite young. The longer you leave it the harder it'll be.
Warming and dangling should work. Try to hold it in as normal a position as you can, so it's not coming at her at a funny angle and confusing her. Got to make it seem as alive as possible really.
I think some people have success moving onto freshly killed first before going the full step to thawed. But you might be lucky first time round so I'd at least try it |

Posted - 06/04/2009 : 01:42:29 hey all, just a quick update... got the different bulb and humid hide, so the cage should be good to go... also picked up some rat pinkies and she ate right away with no problems, yey!! ... i had a quick question about going from live feeders to frozen thawed. do they transition well? is there anything special other than warming up the thawed and using tongs to dangle it? should i wait till she's a little more comfortable, or can i try f/t next week? |

Kirra is a cool name. I wouldn't worry too much about being bitten. I know they've got a reputation for being feisty when little, but all the ones I've seen are little angels |
