hey everyone, I know it has been a while since I have posted. I started a debate about hybrids a while back since I had a columbian female and brazilian male. I decided not to hybridize them, not for the reason of "muddying up the gene pool and duping possible consumers" but for the simple fact that my brazilian was so much prettier than the columbian and I didn't want to make ugly babies lol. So I got a male columbian for my female columbian. Then a female brb for my male brb. Recently I gave the two columbians to my friend. Now I have my brb pair. I am hoping in a year or so the female will be breeding size, my male however is just a gorgeous snake and great size. So I hope everyone has been well.

I agree as well, bravo for not cross-breeding. Oscar, I noticed that snake too, and made the same comment you did. Todd, if true, then possibly...but very hard to prove....

Would it amount to fraud? I mean charging hundreds of $'s for something the owner KNOWS isn't a ghost CRB? People would be paying hundreds for something which is of absolutely no use to them, and probably worth less than either subspecies would be on its own..

It's always good to see that someone opted not to produce some intergrades. This makes me happy

As for the image oakleyman posted, I would also say it's an intergrade; the side pattern is much too disorganized to be a pure Brazilian. If I saw that for sale, I'd personally just walk right by it, lol.

Hi SL!

I'm glad you decided not to hybridize, it's a risky business. I don't mean to open a can of worms that may have already been discussed, but I am against most forms of hybridisation specifically because some people (Not all!!) can't be trusted to label them correctly, and will then be missold to others and thus contaminating the gene pool.

Pulling an example off the net, a couple of members on this forum have noticed something fishy with a shop owner in the US who "claims" this is a ghost CRB, although most suspect it is simply a hybrid...

Now this animal displays characteristics of both subspecies, but the guy is as I said, selling them as ghost CRBS. So not only will people buy these thinking they will have their own projects and see results in a few years time, but they will spread through the gene pool and, I hate to say it, destroy two beautiful snakes and leave us with these "muddled" hybrids, which, in my opinion, aren't as pretty as either type of Rainbow Boa.

CRBs are beautiful in their own ways, as are BRB's (my fave!) but messing with these and trying to make a quick buck by passing hybrids off as ghosts is extremely irresponsible.

Anyways like I said, glad you didnt do it, and I am super psyched to see your babies in a years time or so
