Little Lorcan's strike is like lightening! Not used to that, since my other 'anti-social' snakes are kings so a lot less viperish and easier to out maneuver.
Anyone else got a fiesty little monster and sore hands? |

Posted - 17/11/2010 : 23:26:27 I find them to be most nippy when they are set down to explore outside their tank. For some reason, many of them seem to take this as being granted permanent freedom, and take umbrage when you dare to try picking them up again. One of my three-year-olds, a female that has not even struck at me in years, bit me last night in those circumstances. I always find them least ornery when either in their hides or being held. |

Posted - 17/11/2010 : 22:33:08 Haha amen to this topic!! Jade was a feisty thing when she first arrived. However as everyone knows, they calm down. She's a little apprehensive when being picked up, but becomes quite the explorer once she's satisfied I'm not going to make a purse out of her.. I've managed to avoid getting tagged by little miss moody so far, although she came incredibly close to getting my eye once. Long story.. Possibly saw her reflection?? Oddly enough, I've found that she's most "bitey" when she's up in her climbing areas and I try and get her out when she's in the middle of exploring or looking down on her territory.. anyone else find this?? |

Posted - 17/11/2010 : 21:26:35 LOL, they can be that way as babies. One of my new 2010 youngsters is fine with me, but whenever a certain friend drops by, I practically have to restrain the little guy. He was 42 grams of baby boa fury the first time that person came by (three rapid-fire attempts right from my hand), and the second time tried so hard he lost his balance and fell right off the table (my friend, ever the nice guy, caught him). Thankfully, they calm down with age. :-) |

Posted - 17/11/2010 : 20:14:51 I DID have a snappy girl, but now she only bites when i startle her. If i pick her up from underneath, its usually fine but if i go in like an eagle on a rabbit, she snaps quicker than a chamileons tongue! I also find that if i keep my fist closed she wont even attempt to bite. One time she was high up on a branch and went for me but my reaction was quicker and she ended up on the bottom of the viv! 1 nil to Sully! |
