Posted - 14/02/2011 : 00:59:47 I work at a pet store here where I live and a guy brought in a bearded dragon that looked terrible. she hadn't eaten for like 2 months and was only 3-4 months old. She was so horribly calcium deficient that she was starting to get a head wobble when she went after crickets at one month old. I almost just took it away from the guy. i dusted some wax worms with calcium because she wouldn't touch crickets they were too fast. She at about 6 wax worms with calc dust, then I got her a water dish with some liquid calcium and set her in it and she just started drinking it down. I reamed that man out and told him if I ever saw this animal in this condition again I was going to take it. I have an adoption contract he signed at the store and know how to find him. I told him I wanted him to bring her in a on the next weekend and the weekend after that. He didn't seem offended, just glad some one knew how to help his animal. I kinda cooled my jets after the way he reacted. So hopefully the little girl will be ok. |

Posted - 16/02/2011 : 18:45:44 good of the guy to do everything you said, he obviosly wnats the beardie to get better i have seen reptile shops (the garden centre kind) that only have a bulb in the viv with no guard and no uv, i told them what the setups should be like otherwise i would report them. the next time i went there (2 weeks later) they had put a uv bulb in each beardie cage and had put some protection in front of the bulb (as it was low down) |

Posted - 14/02/2011 : 23:36:41 I think i struck the fear of a vengeful pet owner in that mans heart he brought him in today and was like, "is she doing better? what else do I need?" He had a 2.0 uvb bulb i told him to get at least a 5.0. She did look better, she was a little more alert and moved more so I think she is on the road to recovery. |

Posted - 14/02/2011 : 02:22:29 I've seen things like that as well. Unfortunately a vast amount of time it's where people get them from friends or similar without knowing the first thing about them and not researching either. Did you ask what his setup was like? |
