has anybody had any problems with young colombians not eating mine has only eaten 4 times in 6 weeks and the last 1 i had to assist |

I'm not sure if your climate is a bit different to ours at the moment, but in the UK we are having a bad winter so it's cold and dark. This seems to making a lot of snakes go off their food.
If the viv is heated and controlled by a stat then temperatures shouldn't matter, but what is the hours of daylight like where you are? I would try upping the light if your brb isn't getting a 12/12 cycle.
I feed mine outside the viv, and she doesn't always eat when she's shedding. A month isn't really anything to worry about in snake terms, but keep an eye on her weight and take to the vets if she's loses dramatically. |

my BRB hasnt eaten in a month. he is about a meter and a half. I am a little concerned. he finished molting a few days ago. i understand him not eating while molting but he usually hits it like a champ right after.
does everyone here feed in a different container than where your snake lives? i do and since my snake is having slow time of it right now i resorted in putting the rat right in his living container. he seems to be hiding from the art right now...

Maybe its just settling in - or about to shed? Or perhaps it just being difficult! I had a nightmare with mine when i first got him!
Sounds odd but what really helped me was warming the rat pup in chicken stock.

ok, 2 things, 6 weeks and 4 feeds and you assisted? You didn't need to assist. when it has been 6 weeks and NO feeds, then assist (got a youngster)
and the danglinh, following it around, that's good. Get the room dark, heat the head of the prey, dangle as before, then after a few mins make it dance as if alive, and watch the strike. If that fails, follow the same routine but drap the mouse over the rainbows head and touch behind the head, seems to cause a reaction strike ;)

If it's only been a week since you got her she's probably still settling in, Give her another couple of days then try again. Try heating the rat pup with a hair dryer or put it in a sandwich bag and heat with water from the kettle in a mug.

I have a BRB and I'm trying to get mine to eat for the first time.. well with me anyway, its only been a week since i have got her but i do want to get her to eat soon, she did follow the small rat pup i had dangling in front of her but she didn't strike and wasn't interested if it was just left there... she just doesn't seem that arsed. any ideas? |

Not a columbian- but Ruby is about the same age and hasn't eaten much this month. Think the move from BE's house to ours probably had something to do with that though. |
