Posted - 18/08/2011 : 21:53:44 I am sorry to report that Tuesday evening, following an otherwise gorgeous and sunny day in Southern California, one of Living Gems’ senior males “Hills” passed from this world.
One of the rare snakes we acquired as an adult, Hills was a pleasure to host during his brief 14 months with us, a character who had a ready hiss but never bit…
…who would climb as often and far as could (most handling sessions ended with him wrapped around someone’s head)…
…and one of the most exquisitely bright orange Brazilians I have ever had the pleasure to see.
He was a fighter to the end, valiantly enduring a color change and then an unexpected and fast-moving RI. The Baytril, unfortunately, came too late...though we tried. :-(
Hills is survived by his mate Alex, and (with luck) a litter of young Brazilians still waiting to enter this world -- who, I expect, will be some of the best little climbers the species has ever seen.
Rest in peace, my friend. |

Posted - 19/08/2011 : 19:32:48 Thank you all for the nice comments.
Graeme, there is a lot I *was* going to say, already has his breeder page prepped for my pending website, in fact...water under the bridge, I guess. :-(
Oscar, I really hope so. In addition to being a character, he had such wonderfully bright orange (the picture above does not do it justice), it would be a shame to see that lost.
Emmy, me too.
Joe, it moved pretty fast. I hope you are right on the litters! And thank you so much for the the kind words.
: : :
Curious: in both of the rainbow RIs I've experienced, and in most of the Brazilian cases I've heard of, the infection has moved amazingly fast from appearance to death...has anyone had any RI experiences with Brazilians that ended well? |

Posted - 19/08/2011 : 15:28:26 Geez, sorry to hear that. I just now saw it. You didn't mention it the other day in email and just being away for a week or two you never know what you may miss!
Hang in there, I have a suspicion you are about to have two very large litters! :-)
He was lucky to have had you for his last 14 months, of that I have no doubt.
