My BRB just recently (I held her last night and she was fine) developed a swell around her neck, and I noticed a small drop of clear fluid at the tip of her mouth, where her tongue comes out. I am certain this is not normal but I don't know what might cause this or what I can do to stop it. Should I keep a closer watch on her or take her to a vet as soon as possible? Any help is appreciated.

Let me correct myself: blisters can be fatal, if left untreated. But after looking at some photos and reading symptoms of water blister diseases online, I am not sure that is quite what Iris has/had. I hope that cleaning her cage (and keeping it cleaner) and keeping an eye on her will be enough to keep a blister from returning. |

I called the East Bay Vivarium to ask, and the woman I spoke with said it was most likely a water blister, and nothing to be too concerned about. "It usually dries up if you put the snake in a drier environment for a little while," she said, which makes sense since it went away after I put Iris in a shoebox. It has not returned, and she seems fine. I may take her in just in case, but if this ever happens to anyone else just know that it happens quite a bit and is not life-threatening. YAY |

WHAT, I am thoroughly confused. I just cleaned out my snakes viv, replacing the bedding and cleaning the water bowls, filling them with fresh water. I had put Iris in a shoebox, with holes cut into the lid, so she would stay put while I did this. I just finished, and took her out, to see that her swell had shrinked! Its nearly gone! But, after a closer look I could still see a swell, just not nearly as large as before. She is now roaming in her viv like nothing is wrong. I am still concerned though!
