Hi was wondering if anyone can help we noticed this morning that our 4 1/2 month rainbow boa has had white bumps appear on his skin also hasnt eaten in the 8 weeks we had him which was put down to shredding but hes done that now and still aint eaten but the white hard bumps are concerning us ...please help if you can |

Hi to your question about not feeding well i can say one of my males had a problem and after getting to the bottom of it hes now a fantasic feeder.
If your offering mice to your brb and it has already told you its not intrested in it then i would switch to rats or it could be because it don't like flesh and would prefer some thing with ferr/hair on it in which case my male boa clearly took prey with fur/hair on the prey to ones that didn't have any, Hope this helps you. |

Hans, have you tried optimizing the feeding conditions? Meaning, at either dusk or dawn (the time of day when Brazilians are most active), following a day in which he has not been handed at all, gently place him in a small paper bag and then add a *small* live mouse hopper (I dislike live feeding but eight weeks or no food qualifies as an emergency). Place the bag back in the hide, turn out all the lights, and walk away for an hour. Again, I hate live feeding, but this might work.
Force-feeding -- even placing it in his mouth -- may backfire. A pinkie pump would get some calories in him, but is pretty drastic.

sorry was ment to include the bloke at the pet shop say he wasnt eating to start with due to getting use to new surrounds then it was because he was due to shred (which he did ) but now he still shows no interest what so ever in any food mice ..pinkies or fluffs yet they insist he ate pinkies when they had him. |

sorry for delay in replying and im sorting pics at mo we took him to the vets and basically its were he isnt eating and getting the nutrients he needs.... We been back to the shop we got him from several times and he insists he was eating there but we now have our doubts vets have suggested we try to put it in his mouth gently and hopefuly he will get the taste and want more. i will also take pics of the set up we have and temps and humid ranges etc and post them all asap |

If you have to, borrow a friend's camera. We can't diagnose well, however much we want to help, without a good photograph (and preferably several).
Also, if your snake has not eaten in eight weeks, that indicates a major problem. Get him to a reptile vet *right away*. If you don't know one, post your general location on the forum and I'm sure one of our mnembers can recommend a good specialist in your area.
Finally, the reason people are asking for specific temp and humidity numbers are because some of the sources out there suggesting "good" ranges are -- well -- wrong. It allows us to double check a basic issue that may solve your problem.

Hi there could you tell us where about's the white bumps seem to appear and what size prey did you offer him and what type of prey it was.
Also would help if you can tell us what your temps are reading at and humidity % as well , and how are you heating your boa , and is it stated up ? |

set up is the basic textbook style humid and temp well in the good ranges ..were using eco bark and one of the hides has moss in (sorry cant remember the proper name)
am trying to do a pic but it aint showing up too good will keep trying and upload to here asap |

Hi Hans,
Can you please post pictures on this thread to help some of our more expirienced members help you. Also, maybe worth while explaining the set up you have ie - temps, humidity, substrate and size of viv etc..
