Posted - 23/02/2011 : 09:00:50 Boris, my new BCI has mites, poor wee man! I'm heartbroken as he also had been kept in poor conditions so generally not been a happy chap.
I've just spent a night reading everything i could find on the subject and decided to go down the biological warfare route. I have ordered hypoaspis mites to eat the snake mites. There is a lengthy and very informative post on this on the royal python forum which decided me.
I will also bath him today to try to drown a few! Only seen about 4 or 5 on the viv walls and squished them between my nails but he obviously has them on him as he is sat in his water again this morning.
I am also going to build his new, bigger viv now rather than wait, so he will have a clean house to live in when the mites have done their work. Anybody used Hypoaspis mites before? How successful were they? any other tips? |

Posted - 23/02/2011 : 20:18:26 Sorry to hear that. :-( I always keep a new snake in pretty basic/furniture light housing for the first few months, just to make sure nothing is wrong. Good luck! |

Posted - 23/02/2011 : 19:45:32 That was my plan, and just to be sure im gonna destroy all the contents of the viv he came in when the new viv is done. Typical cos i just bought him loads of new stuff!Grrrr! |

If you build the new viv, do it in a separate and isolated room of the home, and do not move him over until treatment is complete. Also, bleach-bomb any decor you move over, just be sure.
Good luck, mites are tough! |
