my brb has just eaten one single piece of wood chipping, not very big. but on some sites people have said itll die, and some have said they eat wood mudd in the wild itll be fine. i was wondering if i could get a more difinite answer please. thank you |

Your better off using bark or something that don't mould with high humidity as the wood chipping is not very good for a brb. |

I am in your area indeed.
The easiest way you could help us to give the best advice or put your mind at rest is to get a piccy or 2 of the snake near a similar sized bit and type of wood.
Although there are risks of impaction, the scaremongering you have received is daft. Many (if not most) snakes will pass an object fairly easily, although this can still depend on size/shape/texture of the wood.

worst case if you need a vet in your area Kehhlyr on here is in your area and will be best placed to help you out sourcing one.

Not my area of expertise, but don't panic: some people can be alarmists. :-)
However, it's difficult for us to give you an answer without some more background. How big is the chip, what type of wood is it, and how big is the snake? A "not very big" chip of soft wood in an adult Brazilian is a very different story than one of hard wood is in a baby. I suspect the risk people are thinking of is the digestive system being impacted. Let us know the above info, and in the meantime watch his/her behavior and bathroom cycle -- you may even want to keep the snake on non-wood substrate such a spaper towel so you can know if/when he/she passes the chip. Just to prepare you, worst case, if behavior or bathroom indicate, you *may* need to see a vet for x-rays, so be sure to track a name down just in case. I'm sure some of our very helpful regulars near your area can point you in the right direction for names. That would, again, be worst case. :-) Fingers crossed for you! |
