Posted - 02/01/2014 : 20:12:18 Living Gems is pleased to announce its third and final litter of 2013, the Franklin-Agate litter, born December 13.
Franklin (Dad)
Agate (Mom)
The babies were well-dispersed by the time I found them after work, so must have been born that morning.
Here are some shots of the enclosure:
Overview
Left Side
Right Side
The pairing produced 13 babies in total -- our smallest litter yet. However, they were the largest in terms of size, weighing in at average whopping 44 grams. There were no slugs or stills that I saw.
The babies, now just over two weeks old, are going through their first sheds. We will have more details as time passes.
Thank you, as always, for your time and support.
Best regards, |

Posted - 27/01/2014 : 20:38:17 Hi Bunny! I know they often eat slugs, and have heard they may eat stillborns, so your theory is possible. I'm inclined to say no, simply because the total litter weight (babies * size) comes out in line with other litters we've had. Still, you never know.... The second idea sounds more plausible....but if that were the case, other breeders would have seen this before? It's a puzzle for sure! |

Posted - 25/01/2014 : 09:07:43 Congrats Cliff!! I may be wrong, but don't the mothers sometimes eat any stillborns? So if they were laid in the morning there could have been a few which didn't make it? Although if the litter were all bigger than usual maybe that's simply because there were fewer babies there which the mum was required to support in the first place, so therefore they all benefitted? Just guessing obviously lol! |
