Hi, I have two lovely king snakes. So I decided to try my luck with a BRB.

I have a baby (bout 9 inch in length).

I keep her in a small plastic tub with moss on the floor and one water bowl and a couple of hides. All these take up all the room.

My question is... how wet should my moss be? I understand that the humidity levels should be high but my moss gets very very wet from all the water. I fill the water bowl every day. Will a very wet floor surface harm my BRB?

I would be grateful of the help.

shall say hi and welcome,

also gonna have a bash at the moss question :D would possibly consider changing from moss to something similar or orchid bark, it will keep the humidity but just stay damp whereas the higher the humidity will keep the moss wet. Also is easier and cheaper replacing the orchid bark when doing a full clean than it will be to replace the moss.

However folks with BRB's will give you a more informed response

I want to try everything lol... I have been told also to have a moss box and place it in the main viv. This way the snake can choose??? but the moisture would also get out would it not lol... To be honest it would be great to be told how to set a good viv up or see several photos lol.

I look forward to more help please. and thanks Shall.

Hi Paul, and welcome to the forum! To answer your questions, I too would ditch the moss as a general substrate, and orchid bark would work fine. I would also, however, save some of the moss to make a moss-packed ("moist") hide. As your tub is on the small side, I would ditch all the hides except the moss one; that way, she has a little room to exercise in. The moss should be damp, but *not* soaking. The water bowl does not need need to be refilled every day; every few days is fine. I trust it is large enough for her to soak in?

I hope this helps!
