hi all,
as some of you know i just picked up senna my 07 male BRB , hes about 5ft in length.
He currently lives in a 4ft x 15" x 15"
im looking at ordering him a new custom viv but im a little perplexed as to what size i should go for...ive been told 4 ft x 2 ft x 2 ft is ample but i would like to give him more room to climb around and also it will give me more room to decorate his viv and make it more stimulating for him and for me to look at.
im thinking of a 4ft long x 3 ft high x 2 ft wide is this going to be ok for him ..also im after some info on fittings and fixtures such as what heat source would suit the set up at the moment he has no light at all and a ceramic heat plate but id like to add a light to his set up.
and finally the issue of water proofing ....will perspex sheet lined be ok and will it be ok with just the floor lined or walls aswell ?

Jonny, the standard rule for adults is a minimum of three by two feet of floor space. As adults are terrestrial, extra height is optional, but most specimens will not use it. I use four by two feet vivs for all mine, as I want them to have extra room to stretch, but only one foot of height. Your proposed viv is fine, but just be aware the height may not always be used.
As for heating, I always prefer undercage such as flexwatt, as it is cheap, safe, and efficient, s well as aids in humidity management (proposes evaporation of ground water). Avoid heat bulbs at all costs, as they tend to dry the air.
As for lighting, these snakes are secretive and nocturnal. If you add a day light, the chance of a daytime appearance go from low to slim. You'd be better served by adding either a red bulb (which they cannot see) or a *very* soft moon bulb.
As for flooring, I prefer plastic vivs, as they are waterproof from the get-go. I also avoid glass, as it hold heat poorly and provided no hiding factor. If you simply must have wood, I would defer to some of our members who have constructed vivs from scratch. I believe they lined with plexi...not easy, but doable with their excellent advice.

| great news ! im in the process of ordering a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft plastic viv from pro cages for Senna ..as i dont fancy the diy job with perspex and buying a new viv every 5 years or so does not appeal to me at all ! |
