Hi all,
Pretty new to snakes but not animal care.
Have a 5yr old male Corn Snake and just took home yesterday a beutiful Brazilian Rainbow Boa. Am happy with my set-up so far, it's a glass viv (makes keeping it humid so much easier) and a little to big for him but making sure he has plenty of hides and cover. Have everything neccessary to insulate the viv to help retain heat and moisture, and plan to have only the front of the viv exposed.
For aiding me in opportunities to see natural behaviour, I intend on tinting the glass front slightly and fitting aquarium nocturnal spotlights. I will upload pictures as soon as the wee guy is settled to show you the set-up and the snake of course.
Oh, his name is Skittles! Although he will probably gain a different one once he grows a bit and isn't so cute anymore haha.

Forgot to ask... I bought a digital hygrometer/thermometer for the viv but I really don't trust the readings and am very worried I'm not providing the correct humidity! It read 70% in my living room, but saying that I do live in Scotland and it rains all the time lol.
Anyway, what sensors do you guys use and prefer? |

and lol at living in Scotland being humid, can relate to that. |

| Welcome to the forum, zig-zag! It sounds like you did your research. For temp measurement, IR thermometers are the best, but can be a bit pricey. For humidity measurement, digital models are tops, but I'm not familiar with European models...so will cheerfully defer to a local expert. Looking forward to those picts! |

Cheers guys, and thanks for that info!
Did try research the best I could but didn't give myself a lot of time so a few gaps to fill, but I hope to be a very responsible and caring owner as I am with all my animals(family is 15 strong now lol, although 5 are fish lol).
I have a digital thermostat/hygrometer but don't trust the readings so investing in more.
I know it's the wrong section but I have 2 more questions. So paranoid I don't look after the wee fella properly.
What ambient temp do you keep in the viv, and what's the maximum you'll let the humidity rise to?
Will have pics later this week =D |

In my home, the ambient temp is usually mid-70s, with access to a hot spot of 82.
I have no max on humidity, but then I never try and max it, either. In the general vivs it can fall as low as 60%; but in the hides, it's always high enough for there to be condensation on the walls and ceiling. My Brazilians also have 24/7 access to giant waterbowls. |
