Living Gems Reptiles is pleased to profile the babies from its 2013 “A” litter.

Born on July 20, 2013 to Scarface (a July 2008 male noted for his almost perfect side patterns)…

Sire

…and Almandine (a July 2008 female noted for her strong color)…

Dam

…the 20 babies in this litter seem to have inherited the best of both worlds. Several of them picked up and even enhanced their mother’s minor dorsal chaining. Many of them have a slight “blushing” effect where the color gets slightly darker in the center. All of them picked up their father’s consistent side crescents, with the most “deviant” baby having no more than two departures from this norm.

All have now shed two or three times, eaten at least six times, and had multiple “confirmations” their digestion is properly working. As has been outlined in previous posts, all of these babies come from a disease-tested facility.

As with all LGR litters, we’ve done dozens of handling sessions for each baby, part of our commitment to start acclimating them to humans, and they are our calmest litter to date. (Well, except when being sexed. Every one of them attacked the local expert we hired to double check. ;-) )

Over the following posts, please find a short profile of each baby in the litter. For each, a short description is provided, along with a selection of photos showing their development over the first two sheds, and noting any behavioral or physical quirks.

So grab a cup of your favorite brew, sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Thank you as always for reading,

Cliff Earle

Baby #02 (Female)

This gorgeous little girl is one of only two lighter babies in this litter. She is also one of our five dorsal chain babies, with eight short stretches of linked spots on her back, from two to four spots in length. She is the only baby to combine both lighter color and dorsal chains. Her dorsals also feature moderate blushing. She has rows of unbroken crescents on her sides.

Baby #03 (Female)

This little lass is one of our five dorsal chain babies, with four stretches of linked spots on her back -- one of them a remarkable five+ spots in length, and thus the record-setter for this litter. Her dorsals feature minor blushing, and are framed by some of thickest black outlines in the litter, enhancing her highlight color. Her sides are rows of unbroken crescents, save one merged dot on the right side.

Baby #09 (Female)

This little girl is my holdback female. Her color pops, and she has a nice long chain of linked dorsals (though not as many as on a few others). She has the least blushing of the litter. Her sides are rows of unbroken crescents, save one merged dot on the right side. She is also the finickiest eater of the litter, refusing three meals so far.

Baby #12 (Male)

This little lad pops. Even in a strong litter, he is the baby that my guest sexer always stopped at and said “wow.” He only narrowly lost the holdback vote (to #16). He has four short stretches of two to three linked dorsal spots on his back. His dorsals feature significant blushing, with several showing unusual black dots. His sides are rows of unbroken crescents, save one merged dot on the right side.
