Last week Living Gems profiled its hypo project, including Ramses, Amber, and Pearl.

As noted in that post, Ramses…

...was old enough to breed this year, but his hypo harem was not.

Instead, to give him a little practice and contribute some further outcrossing, we paired him with a non-hypo this year: Jasper, a beautiful orange bullseye female tracing from the Will Bird line. Born in August 2009, below is a picture of her as a baby, aged nine months (the color in this shot is weak due to poor lighting, but it captures her wonderful side pattern):

Below is a second picture of her at her most recent annual photo session, aged four years (note her incredibly dark face, which captures iridescence amazing well):

She currently weighs 1906 grams.

She and Ramses have been observed hanging out in their water bowl several times since mid-May, with at least one confirmed tail wrap as of June 9th. She just shed this past Monday night. If all goes well, we should have some colorful outcrossed bullseye het hypos toward the end of this year. One of that litter’s girls will take her place as the third and final member of the firm’s het hypo harem.

As always, thank you for reading.
