Hi all
I bought my first ever rainbow boa last week, he's a year old and a gorgeous colour, quite chocolatey in the day. He's a Brazilian.
Anyway I bought him from a guy who had had him from a neonate and sold him with everything. He is in a 64 litre rub with heat matt, pulse thermostate, etc.
The guy told us he was told not to put any holes in the rub to keep humidity up. He is being kept on orchid bark as a substrate with an aspurgum moss wet hide on the cold end. I added a digital exo terra hydrogometer cause he didn't have one. His humidity was 91% It was so high he went from blind to shed in less that a week. My o/h has drilled some holes in the side of the rub to let the humidity out when I cleaned him today, but after putting everything back together its still 91%. Does anybody have any ideas, as I dont want him to develop an ri. Sorry its such a long post

Rubs are excellent at maintaining humidity plus the orchid bark holds moisture well, mine (i have a BRB in a 64ltr rub as well) hardly needs spraying at all you could try leaving the lid off for a while, while you have him out.

For a Brazilian rainbow boa that is a year old that humdiity isn't too high. They need it around 90% when young, it's when they get older that you can let it drop down to about 80 ish 
They are resistant to R.Is and mold as they have evolved to require high humidity. I would just keep an eye on him. |

| lack of ventilation will keep the humidity up.......but will also encourage moulds to grow so it does need some fresh air flow |

| Hello. They still need good air flow or the snake will be breathing stale air. Try adding a few more air holes until you get the balance right? |

high humidity is a requirement...........but so is some fresh air! |
