Sunday night I rehomed a 15yo male Carolina corn called Oscar. He's about 5'6" - 6' long and weighs in at a mahooosive 1340g
to cut a long story short he was being cared for by a non-snakey person who had done her best but realized she couldn't really cope.
room temperature, on pine (yes, pine!) shavings, tiny water bowl, no hides but a lovely piece of wood (that she let me take with him )
she said he often hisses at her while she holds him but to me he appears to have a chronic RI - probably down to the low temps and pine hamster bedding - looks like he'll be finishing this bottle of Baytril! he also had several layers of un-shed skin stuck to his neck and tail tip. contrary to the advice i usually give recommending not handling your new snake for a week, I was so concerned about this stuck shed, particularly his tail which he could have lost, he had a bath this afternoon and a good rub down with a towel which seems to have solved the problem

That's your good deed for the festive period, well done. Looks to be a nice big chap, best of luck getting him into shape. It's a pity that a lot of older corns were never really treated correctly due to lack of knowledge, when I think how I used to house a Royal 10+ yrs ago it makes me shudder (fish tank, 40w bulb, no guard, on a 12hr timer, that was it)
He will think all his christmas have come at once |

and i was going to feed him tomorrow as well, it really IS Christmas for him 
when i look back too there's things i certainly do differently now, it's a good thing if you change your ways with increased knowledge, technology and the like. if you still do things the old way and there's good reason not to you're probably just stubborn! |
