Little Lorcan is currently being treated for the dreaded mites
...and I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas of how I can keep the humidity up while he's on kitchen roll?
I've removed all the substrate and moss because I know mites need those to breed, but the kitchen roll doesn't seem to hold the humidity like they do.
He's being treated with Frontline and regular viv clean outs, so know he'll get rid ok, just need to keep him hydrated until then.
Thanks |

Hi kaz. The best way to keep humid up is to use a thick face towel and wet it without ringing it out. You will need to pour water on it daily.
Hope this helps |

Or you could buy a Fogger / Humidifier for £14.99 from Maplin it works wonders it boost my humidity level from 50% to a 85% in a matter of 5 to 8 mins and then that last's for about 6 to 7 hours then i turn the fogger on again for 5 to 10mins. |

Lorcan hasn't got a fogger yet- he's only in his little faun. he'll get the works when he grows into a viv like Ruby.
Not seen any mites for a few days so hopefully the frontline has done the trick. Going to keep the treatment up for a few more months thjough because I've leant from my experience with Evra that they come back if you don't persist for longer than you deem necessary. |

Sorry to hear about the mite outbreak, Kazerella. Mind if I ask how it happened?
As an alternative to Frontline, can you get PaM over in the UK?
For humidity, paper towel is not as good as moss and substrate, but is the best option during treatment. Just mist every morning and every night for the duration and it should be fine.
Smart of you to overtreat! |

Lorcan is new to the fold, so I think he must have come in with them. Good job he was in quarentine.
Never heard of PaM - what is it? I could do a bit of research to see if it is available.
Only other one I know of is Xeno, but not sure how effective that is because although the vet told me about it and it says on the bottle it's good for reps, I've only ever used it on the ferrets as a flea preventative so far. |

I think we can get it over here- well I've heard of it anyway.
Is it a good preventative?
We have some Zoo Med Mite off for cases that aren't confirmed as it's not as controvershal as Frontline. |

Everyone I know swears by it. I myself, however, had (knock on wood) not needed it yet -- though I have a can on standby. |
