Hi All!

As some of you know, I'm in the process of designing my own Vivarium for my final year project at Uni, and I was hoping to have a little bit of input from you guys!

These are two concepts which I've created thus far, if you could give each a rating out of 10 for Aesthetics, and then a rating for how comfortable you think a Reptile/amphibian would be inside one. Be critical! Any suggestions welcome!

Concept 1 - All glass and black plastic conctruction.

Concept 2 - Wooden construction, with glass habitat seperately sealed to prevent rotting.

Thanks guys!

Oscar

Hi Oscar , I'm not to sure about the first one i would rather go for a wooden viv so im going with the second one but don't like the colour of the wood seems a little old fashioned not sure on a rating as i would like to stack my vivs so i can't really say but ill give you a general rating if i was going to invest in it i would rate probs a 7 out of 10 just because it looks different to other vivs.

Both look very cool, Oscar. However, Number Two has three advantages: it looks different than anything else on the market; it can capture interest from people who like furniture-quality wood finishes; and stuff can be placed on top of it. Only thing I can't figure out is how/where does it open?

Reptiles are shy, so with three or four glass walls neither will be their favorite...but the less glass the more secure they will feel.

After looking at both of them very closely, I would have to say that I really like the second one (the wood one) more than the black topped one. For keeping a snake or other herp in...it would be ideal. Many of the reasons that Cliff gave were definitely on my mind. Also, I think that if one could choose the type of wood (like cherry or oak or maple, etc.) it would really be an aesthetically pleasing peace to any room. I'm with Cliff, though....where's the opening? Best of luck with your project!

I think they both look great, it would be nice to see something out there a bit different so aesthetically I1d give them both 9/10, as for herp comfort I'd have to give the wooden one slightly higher because of a lot of herps need for security. Not all though, so it's horses for courses. So 7/10 for the black and 8/10 for the wood. Personally I'd go for the black and use a panoramic view taped to the back and one side. Let us know if you go into production

Hi everyone, thanks for your kind words!!! It's great to have some feedback on them, I have a deadline for the design proposal on Friday this week, and had to choose between these two concepts (started at 25!) asap and do a final bit of development before then.

The renders I've put up are very simplistic, I can't really go into too much detail about the workings due to confidentiality, but thought I'd ask for your knowledgeable opinions!! Functionality wise - All the heat mat, humidity and temperature regulation has all been thought out and designed into the concepts, both slightly differently, so don't worry if you can't see a space for heat mat etc, it is there, just not on the render!

I think I will be going with the second design, it seems to have created a bit more interest, and the security of the animal is obviously fairly important, and that seems to be a key factor. Also part of the design brief I set myself was to fit into the aesthetic of any congregational room or bedroom, such that it can almost be seen as a display piece, and I think the wood brings that out more. I'll re-do some renders to show some different woods and put those up tonight and ask everyone to vote!!

Thanks again for your advice guys, I really appreciate it!
