My BRB seems to like climbing and likes to spend extended periods wrapped around the vines at the top of her viv.
I tried to get her down for feeding but she was having none of it so i offered her the food where she was. She took it and ate it whilst hanging at the top of her viv!! She stayed there for a good while afterwards too.

| Baby rainbows love to climb. They tend to lose interest as they get older (and, in terms of evolution, better able to defend themselves). But at this age, she felt pretty safe where she was! Think of this as you providing breakfast in bed. ;-) |

Good to hear that it is normal behaviour, as i know that odd behaviour can often indicate a problem. It took me ages to find her the first time she hid up there, got a bit of a panic on when i couldnt find her!!!
I will just keep checking the vines are secure so she cant fall!! |

| Also, just for safety's sake, check the top near where she hides for escape cracks -- though I'll bet she's already looked herself. ;-) |

Interesting. My 4 footer routinely does laps around my snake room climbing on everything, and I mean everything. It's not uncommon to find her up on the shelf in the closet at least a few times per outing, actually, but then again, even my Bloods will climb up there and most folks think those are strictly a terrestrial snake.
I think given the opportunity to climb, the vast majority of snakes will do it, and a lot of them like to eat from higher places. My Carpet Pythons are funny that way...they get a whiff of food and point down as an automatic reaction, so if you watch your animal enough and see something like that, it's trying to tell you it prefers perching over sitting  |

Funny, there was a hole at the top of the viv, and she found it and got out of it. The wife got a bit of a shock when she looked up and saw a snake wrapped around the curtain tie backs in the front room window!!!
The hole is now filled up with thermostat sensor wires and my vines are secured through it.....theres no escape now!!!!!!!!!

@ CDN: I'd always read and been told what I quoted above -- that adult Brazilians are terrestrial -- but now that I have enough adults of my own, I agree with you that it's not always true. I have one male, in fact, who likes nothing better than to climb...usually onto my head! What I have noticed is that the tendency seems less than as babies.
@ Stevie: Lucky find, I'm glad to hear her adventure had a happy ending! I'd give her tank another once-over though, just to make sure. These creature are nature's escape artists, and better safe than sorry.... |
