Hello everyone, as some of you know I got a lovely big BCI yesterday.
Today I went in to change the water and as I was moving her I noticed I could hear her breathing, alot like she was weezing or out of breath, I know in royals this is a sign of respiratory infection, however I also know she is huge and I thought maybe it's just that she has big lungs that when I concentrate I can hear her breath.
I also noticed a bubble at the corner of her mouth yesterday when I was holding her, I've not noticed any mucus or anything around her nose yet and I've not seen any more bubbles since yesterday.
Do you think this is RI or am I just being overly sensitive to a big snake? |

Glad to hear she's improving, and I have to agree that raising the humidity a touch is recommended. Lowering it can cause the mucus to dry and start some serious blockage. |

Yeah he recommended to keep the heat up at about 33 |

I bet it was a big injection, its a lot of snake to treat. I have heard that cranking the heat up a few degrees can help dry up an RI but I've no experience of it. Good luck. |

Back from the vet's!
Pandora has RI but it's not reached her lungs yet, all in the head. Like a head-cold mixed with tonsillitis I guess.
She had a big injection of antibiotics which will last her until Monday where she'll go back again to see if she's okay :) |

All the signs pointed to RI so you only did the right thing by checking with a vet. I'd still keep the temp up for a few more days make sure whatever it was has passed, caught early an RI can be shifted with just a temp increase but it may still need an antibiotic to just kick it in the ass. |

Got Pandora out today to check for any signs of RI, couldn't see a thing. Breathing was silent, no bubbles or mucus.
Think it might have been the long 4 hour drive that had just done her in?
I'm not exactly a vet it's possible I mis-diagnosed her |

if you increase the humidity (only temporarily though) it makes the mucous more runny and able to drain more freely 
you could also try misting with dilute F10 disinfectant
as gmac says increase the temps to about 30'C in the cool end, 34'C in the warm end |

is very weird normally the humidity has to be lowered, Also not a big fan of your vet, if she is saying it is an RI it wont go away itself without any intervention and will more than likely will need antibiotics.
Would still raise the temps a degree or 2 and lower the humidity in the viv. |

Just spoke to the vet, it's RI.
Said to watch her for the weekend and see if it dissapears if not bring her to the vet.
weird thing was he advised me to spray down her viv twice a day to raise humidity incase her airways are dry as where most of the things I've read said the opposite to decrease humidity. |

Just been on the phone to southcoast my reptile guys they said to contact a vet so just rang one now, they'll get back to me in 20 mins or so.
Any idea how much a vet will charge to see her? |

it could well be, turn the heat in the basking area up a degree or 2, also if possible try and raise the ambient temps, keep the water as far away fro the hot end as possible or even remove it just add it for a few hours a day for the snake to drink. If it continues to sound like that would take it to the vet for some antibiotics. |
