Hi well i shall tell how this happend first then you will understand how Mayhem ate some beef ..

Well i was handling Mayhem and my misses was chopping some beef up in to dice chunks for our stew and as i walked near the beef to look at it i forgot i had Mayhem in my hand and he striked at the plate full of beef dice chunks and hit one of the beef cubes and started to eat it i tried to pull it out of his mouth but was unable to i am very worried , The beef its self is raw and not cooked , after he ate it i kept handling him to hope for a regurge but he didn't regurge so i put him back in to his RUB , This happend yesterday and it has been over 12 hours now i have checked him to see if he is ok and he seems fine. Should i be worried in any way and should i seek herp vet??

Great point about the nutrition. Sorry to hear about your loss. :-( Sounds like she was well cared for though, if she made it another 15 years with you *post* rescue! Well done!

The beef should not harm it in any way, but should not be used as a food source, since it lacks the nutritional elements of a whole mouse, rat or bird. That being said I raised a rescued albino burmese python 15 years ago, I fed her rats, rabbits, quails, even guniea pigs. she would eat them dead or alive. In an old issue of Reptiles magazine I read that a guy had his eating supermarket chickens and drumsticks of chicken or turkey. So I tried it and it was the first time I had ever gotten bit by a snake, but it cut down the cost of her feeding by half since she would eat a whole dozen turkey drumsticks every other week. They only run about $8 for a dozen, meanwhile a jumbo rat was $6.50 each. She grew to about 16 feet and died after 15 years in my care from becoming eggbound.

I wouldn't offer anything but unscented rats. Remember, he was eating fine before the Beef Incident, and the last thing you want to do is put him back on mice or have to offer beef-flavored rodents (try explaining that one if you ever sell him!). Patience, my friend -- you're doing fine! :-)

Yes no effects caused from this meat but i see it must of been a good meal for him as after he digested his meal he went in to heavy blue phase and yesterday came out of blue clearing up so means hes going to shed in the next 12 - 24 hours. Then i am going to offer him either a rat fluff or a medium mouse but will offer the rat first as i want him to be on rats to be honest but if he don't take it i will just offer him a mouse , and then i will buy some beef and on the next feed i will rub the beef meat all over the rat and hope he eats the rat with the beef scent.

unless its a full cow i wouldn't , there's not enough nutritional requirements in it as Danny has said.
reptiledanny Posted - 27/02/2011 : 16:30:22
no as it would not contain any bones or anything like which helps with nutrients and calcium (i think) so no beef would not be a good food source

Yes it has been 48 hours now and he seems fine , Does beef better than mice like in goodness ?
Kehhlyr Posted - 27/02/2011 : 03:47:07
Just anything that is totally different from the norm.

That being said, by midday today it's gonna be about 48hours since you posted, so would assume about the same time since it happened. I would've thought any adverse affects would've shown up by now.

Ok well i weighed him today and when i put him back he was tongue flickering as normal and then went for a soak and drink in the water bowl , what kind of unusual behaviour should i be looking out for ?
Kehhlyr Posted - 27/02/2011 : 00:08:39
I wouldn't of thought it could do any harm in a small amount.
As has been said, just keep an eye out for unusual behaviour over the next couple days.
