hey all,
im just wanting to find out what size viv my small boa needs its bout a year old and relitivly small its living in the same viv as my larger one but is not feeding well or at all so im going to seperate them as i think it could be stressed living with the larger one
i have a couple of spare vivs around so just seeing what would be best aslo can i keep the humidity up with a heat matt as im used to usin ceramics im not a boa pro i havnt had these long so want to do the best for them i have corn snakes so any help would be great cheers
i have everything set up correct im not worried about that i just want the little one to start eatin properly i had put smaller hides in the viv he is in now and stuff but hasnt really helped
would appriciate any help any one can offer

You didn't say what kind of boa it is? Is it a brazilian rainbow?
Yes, the smaller snake is certainly stressed by living with a larger one. The larger one could kill the smaller one out of the blue, even after having lived with it for a while. Definitely get them separated at all costs. The smaller one could be housed in a 6.99 tub from dollar general for now, a 16 qt or something temporarily.
There are size suggestions, like 60% of the length of the snake, although even that figure varies depending on which care sheet you look at.

It may take the smaller boa a few days to calm down and feel safe after you removed it from the co-habitated viv. |

and i figured the same as i would not house other snakes together and deff with the size diff i have only had these a week or so but tonight i will set up a smaller viv as there one is good size for the larger one but way to big for the small one
also can i keep humidity high using a heat mat as i know they need about 75% for best living

the only spare vivs i have left are glass ones and with the bark im using will my boa get enough heat throu it as i will put in under the glass viv and will this effect the humidity
any help would be great as im gonna get this set up and tested tonight

did put sum effort in and bout 70 quid to get this temp one going as i dint have the right size heat matt and stuff for he/she to climb but will be worth every penny if it settles down and feeds better im gonna be building a large stack to house all my snakes and any more i rescue or decide will be part of the family lol

| Adam, the heat should work fine even through bark as long as the temps are properly set. Remember, above 85 = bad. (And make the sure the glass right above the heat source does not pass this, as the animal can and probably will burrow). The bark will actually make keeping the humidity up easier, as any water you spray on it will evaporate faster due to the heat underneath. Looks good, and good luck! |

| i have just tester the temp on the hot side and it is at 85 should i make this slightly cooler to be safe or will this be ok mate and thanks for the reply |

| I would drop it by a bit, just to be safe -- always better to have a margin of safety. At home, I try to never go above 82F. |
