1. A reputable breeder, preferably one who specializes in *only* rainbow boas
2. Talk with the breeder to make sure they really know their stuff -- ask newbie questions you alrady know the answer to, such as temp and humidity. If they answer wrong (90 degrees dry cage) smile and walk away
3. An animal that looks healthy, acts healthy, and has good care records

Good luck!

Well for my $0.02 I'd say look at the conditions they are kept in with a careful eye. Anything that might be unclean or a potential harbour for mites is a no go, you dont want to have to deal with careful tratment and months of isolation only to find that your whole stock has been infected.

Definitely agree about the breeder, try and guage their personality too, I don't usually like buying off people who are purely in it for the money and dont respect the animals, or try TOO hard to make a sale at the expense of your benefit. Someone who helps you make the right choice rather than tells you what you should do is appealing for me, makes me feel so much happier about the transaction!

Looking forward to them -- but I think you are wise to let him settle for a few days first.
