Yep, you guessed it, tried Prism on a defrosted Pinky again last night - to no avail I tried to wriggle it very gently in front of her - she just sat there looking really interested with her nose against it, tongue-flicking for ages, must have been over 5 mins maybe 10 (my arm got tired from the gentle wiggling lol) then she tried to use the tongs/my arm to climb out again

I dunked it back into really hot water again and left it in there with her. Turned all the lights off and got my video camera out so I could watch her with it's infra-red setting. She slowly went over to it, then settled down to use it as a pillow Again was there for ages just lying on it, then she started tasting? sniffing? it again, really looked like she was going to go for it - then slithered off Left it overnight even though I knew there would be no point, and it was still there this morning.

*sigh* What AM I going to do with her?!?!!

Aww, so sorry, Bunny. :( She just needs to get with the program! :D I really do think that with as young as she is and as hard headed as she is, you might have to resort to live for a while. I know it's frowned upon there, but the welfare of your snake really is at risk and I think that is one of the few times that people will allow the live feeding there? Wish it was as easy as here in the States. You just run right down to the pet store and grab what you need. I really hope that Prism decides that eating is important and starts eating well for you.

Thanks Incurable.

It's more the getting hold of the live food in the 1st place that is the problem! It's illegal to sell unweaned animals, so the pet shop which has luckily got them in for me is having to give them to me for free - I can't expect him to do that forever lol!

Plus, it's all very well feeding a little snake live pinks - but I really don't want to be in the position where I am feeding an adult live adult rats! (I know that's a long way off yet but it's still in the back of my mind lol!)

Sorry to hear Prism didn't take the defrosted pinkie.
You would be best trying to source a reptile keeper who breeds their own food, I'm sure they would be prepared to supply you with 'live' under the circumstances, breeders probably have the same problems with hatchlings and neonates which are non feeders to start with.
As mentioned before try on RFUK.
Do you have a reptile club which meets any where near you? If so it could be worth a visit to make discreet enquiries about local people who breed their own food.
I also understand your worry regards having a snake that will only take live food - not an ideal situation in this country.
As a long shot you could try a Royal breeder - they seem to be fussy feeders and I have seen adverts for ones which will only take live food or fresh killed. Try the Royal site for a source of breeders near to you.
Sorry I can't be more helpful, I do hope you get her to convert to frozen/thawed eventually

Yeah, thanks Blackcat. I did actually register on RFUK, and contacted the guy from the herp society who ran the show we got her from trying to trace the breeder - with no luck. I also asked about local mouse breeders (although they are not exactly local, we don't have any local clubs so it was a good second best lol). Wasn't a lot of help though unfortunately lol.

Boas are usually very good eaters, but they can be picky as babies. It could be possible that Prism just needs the stimulation of live prey to get her going. I think once she gets several "live" meals in her, it would be far easier to switch her over to frozen/thawed than at present moment (where she's confused that her meal isn't moving like her instincts are telling her it should). If you are serious about keeping her, it might be in your best interests to possibly get a single breeding pair of mice and start with your own live pinkies. I dunno if this is something you could do, but it might be the only way if you have such difficulty getting live there. Mice can have babies every 21-25 days, so if you could get a breeding pair, you'd only have to find Prism enough for a meal or two to last her until you got your first litter. You wouldn't have to keep the mice for very long, just until Prism got to eating well and then you could work her over to f/t a little easier? I really am so sorry that you're having so much trouble with her, it is frustrating when our snakeys won't eat like they should. Anyway, I am keeping my fingers crossed that she'll eat very, very soon. :)

Me too. I was thinking of suggesting breeding mice myself but thought you might get an over-abundance of mice! I guess too many live pinkies would be better than too few. C'mon Prism, we know you can do it!

Sorry to hear your little one is still being fussy, Bunny. :-( I'm sure she'll come around eventually;. How many live meals did you get into her before trying f/t again?

Sorry to hear RFUK has not been too useful for you - I must just live in an area that has an abundance of reptile keepers who breed their own.
Also sorry to hear they weren't very useful in tracing the breeder for you.
I think I would be going down the avenue of breeding some myself if I was in your situation - not ideal but may be the easiest solution short term.
Fingers crossed for you

The only advantage of being a 'towny' - abundance of most things if you look hard enough.
Know what you mean regards breeding your own, but I would of being doing the same.
Hopefully you will get some soon and don't end up with too many baby mice.

On the other hand, if you *do* gets loads of baby mice, I guess that means you'll to get a few more snakes. ;-) Best of luck on the production front!

You also have Corns, right? Getting rid of the extra offspring should be relatively easy. ;)

Tried again last night to no avail, she was really fascinated by it kind of 'well it really smells very interesting, and it looks a bit like dinner buuuuut it's just not quite right and if I climb up the black things wiggling it I get to that nice warm hand to snuggle in.....' lol.
Fussy little madam!

Yup, got 2 corns, the eldest is on mediums though, don't want to have to keep them to that size if I can help it - will be too attached to them by then lol!

At least she shows interest in the thawed ones - hopefully once feeding on home produced you will be able to swap her to fresh killed and then to f/t.
I have visions of stacks of vivs and mouse cages in my head now, lol.

At least if you do have to keep a few, they're mice-- could you picture having to keep heaps of rats? ;-) Good luck!!!
