So its been just over a month since I received my pair (was a month on the 9th) I just wanted to give you guys an update and say thank you again for everything, all the information and advice, I don't post much but I read everything that is posted and its been so helpful.
Burn the female was in shed when I received her and shed perfectly in my care. She has gone from the first feeding having to be left in, to taking from the tongs to full on striking now. Bowl movements are perfect and she is a joy to handle though I keep it very short and sweet as i'm still very nervous of their health, usually every two ish days for about 15 (Not sure if this is to much or too little). The day I got her she was 31 grams, as of today she is 38, don't know length.
Quick Ben is the male and is currently in his first shed with me, his eyes just cleared so I expect him to shed soon. His first two feedings with me had to be left in but now he has also became a striker so i'm very happy with his progression. Bowl movements are fine as well. When I received him he weighed 32 grams and as of today he weighs 43 grams.
Anyway no picture atm, as i'm worried my setup might be dangerous due to the lights drying them out :S I might be a little over protective i'm not sure haha. |

Glad to hear all is going well :)
My only concern is the handling every 2nd day(ish). That indicates that very small meals are being taken. When my youngsters ate, it was always a good solid week before they were digested because they got lots of food. There are tons of feeding threads here, a lot of people tend to really underfeed their snakes - or so I consider that to be the case - but everyone is different and we all need to do what's best for our own individual snakes, but don't be afraid to offer them lots of food of appropriate size. Don't get caught up in the pet shop mentality where only 1 small mouse is offered every X days - it ain't natural :)
Anyhow, keep up the good work and keep us posted - we love success stories :P |

| Thanks but their eating rat pinks that leave a bunp for about a day and a half, I leave them sit for 3 days to make sure they are fully digested of it, which is why I stated two ish as in feed them, leave them for three, handled them for a bit, leave them for two, handle, feed, leave them for three. I feed weekly, I know for hatchlings they could eat every 4-7 and I like to play things on the end of that scale. They've been growing at a rate I am more then happy with. When the pinks no longer leave a bump or they get to a size where those pinks are not up to par I will be moving them up but for now the pinks do a fine job. |

| Thanks Smart Bunnny, I'm sure your little one will kick in soon! I wasn't expecting mine to ever feed the way they do so I hope yours will pick up and start being an eating machine! |

| Valvaren, your feeding practice sounds fine. I do the same thing with babies: one rat pink every week, like clockwork, until they get big enough to move to the next size. I think this is one of the very few points where I disagree with Todd, and even then only specific to rainbows due to that species' tendency to either get overweight or regurg. (Sorry, Todd -- you know I think you're an amazing keeper!) |
