Having had no 'real' problems with Indigo my male BRB he now decides to test me. Living conditions: Kept in a RUB on newspaper with plenty of hiding places, a moist hide, water bowls. Temps: high 81F, low 76F Humidity is never lower than 86% I will add that the high end temp does reach between 82 and 83F on occasion but usually 81F and never had issues previously. I decided it was time to move him up a size to what was called Rat Chubs (weight approx 14g)so not huge. Fed on 13/08/2012 and has not been handled until yesterday 19/08/2012 I found the following this morning:
Definately looks to me like a regurge. Question: Is this due to the increase in food size, nothing else has changed and I thought I had left plenty of time before handling. Should I increase the high end temp? Is now being left well alone due to regurge. I will also add he last shed on 17/07/2012 so is very likey due to shed again soon - could this be a contribution?

What is the plant fibre type material seen in these images? Aspen? Straw? <scratches head> |

It's definitely a regurg. Regurgs can be triggered by many things, but if nothing in his environment has changed, it's likely due to too large of a meal (five days between feeding and handling should have been fine). Hold off on feeding to give his gut fauna time to recover. Wait double the normal feeding period, then offer a meal half the size of normal. If he keeps that down, repeat. And please keep us posted! |

Oops - should have said I had cleaned out his moist hide and thrown every thing out, then decided I should take a photo or two so retrieved newspaper from my rubbish bin. Thought I had removed all traces of moss and other 'foreign' particles before taking photo. Hope that clears things up for you CDN
Snakesitter - I had planned on leaving in peace for 10 days before offering to feed again, only going in to change water and spot clean if needed. Would it be better to leave for 14 days before trying again, and will definately only offer a rat pinkie. Thanks for the replies |

Awww, poor little guy. Got himself an upset tummy. :( Definitely follow Snakesitter's advice. He wrote a fantastic article on reguring here: http://www.therainbowboa.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=466 and there are some great suggestions. :) Hope this helps and he's back to eating normally for you very very soon! |

Thanks for the link Incurable Some great information - all taken on board. Will definately leave him longer than the 10 days - had been baseing my treatment on what I have done in the past for my corn snakes. I too hope he is back to 'normal' soon. |

If you follow the advice above -- longer delays and smaller food -- all should be fine. :-) Please keep us updated!

The advice will be followed - no point in asking for advice if 'one' is not going to take it on board, particularly when it is provided by experienced keepers. So far Indigo has remained in his warm moist hide and is not venturing out - but I do think he is going to shed some time soon and hiding in his moist hide is normal for him when about to shed. It is also appreciated that people wish to be kept updated - it is what makes this forum one of my favourites |

I did put a warning up for 'graphic' lol. Indigo is definately in blue - took a quick peek this morning and is looking very pale - hopefully he will venture out again once shed. He has then got to wait until 3rd sept for his next feed. I will probably keep him back on rat pinks for some considerable time, rather that than another regurge. |

I wish they'd sticky it. It's a great post and really helpful when people aren't sure what to do with their RBs when they've had a regurge. ;)
Forgot to say....you are welcome for the link, Blackcat. :) Glad I could help. ;) |

I agree about it should be a sticky. Well Indigo has shed so hopefully he will start to venture out and explore again - still no food for another week. I can also stop worrying about Ruby and her 'larger' meal - she was fed 7 days ago, I handled yesterday and no regurge |

Indigo was out and about round his RUB last night, so obviously 'feeling' better. All the others acting 'normal' - just waiting for Orinoco to shed.
