Here's Ruby's new viv, that we have kitted out with live and plastic plants to make it a bit more rainforesty
The substrate is a mixture of orchid bark and coco husk, with Hydroleca balls underneath to hold in moisture. The coco background on the back should also help with humidity and is were the live plant is rooted.
This is her warm hide- which looks big, but because it's plastic it must keep the humidity close to her as it's her favourite hide.
Her she is exploring her new surroundings.
We are also going to cover the sides with green paper to make it more secure for her. Just not got around to it yet. |

looks nice there, almost tempted but I am determined to wait until I move Bo into his big viv in a few months-a years time...
Must resist.
Really like the planting, and the backing looks good (should help retain more moisture.) |

She doesn't use her hide much GP- she prefers it under the water bowl. Very strange girl
Karl- the background coco stuff and the moisture retaining balls have raised the humidity brilliantly. Really chuffed with the results.
Matty- If you were a Rainbow Boa- Bear Grylls would eat you |

Ruby is behaving ok- she ate the other day- but it was a mouse so don't know if we are just making things harder for ourselves in the long run. She seems to be settled in her new home though, so that's good.
Me and Lewy are traitors! We watched Bear Grylls the other day eating a snake and we didn't even flinch, but then he ate a little tiny tree frog and we both went ''. Shows we have gone a bit towards the 'damp side' of amphibians a bit.
The snake was a gaboon though and they are bad! Plus he ate a little snake of random origin and it was still wriggling without it's head when it went in. Maybe I didn't get angry because I was secretly hoping the snake would make him sick. I bet it did- imagine that moving in your stomach!
hee hee- Bear Grylls is a prat |
