Hiya

Looking around my local reptile shop today and took a liking to another snake which was labelled as a common boa but there was a much larger adult there as well that was totally different colouring, can someone confirm exactly what this species of boa is and also what care they need, temps, humidity, substrate, etc please

Tempted to buy the one thats at the front of the viv

Martin

Got a lovely royal python called earl, 2 brazilian rainbow boas called zeus and hera, a red tail cross boa constrictor called dorris and an albino burmese python called angel as well :-)

it looks to me like a BCI (Boa constrictor imperator),

The females has the potential to reach about 9ft whereas the male to about 7ft so their viv will have to be sized accordingly.

Temps range from about 27 in the cool end to 33 in the basking area, you are best with a bulb for heating the viv for these guys. humidity of about 50% is fine for the BCI and raised slightly when shedding.

Substrate you can use Aspen, Aubiose or paper its your preference to which really.

Thanks for the info, been handling a 9ft common boa this week to make sure am comfortable with one that size and been loving it so its looking like am going to buy the little fella so a few more questions if thats ok

Speaking to the reptile shop they are telling me that as long as I put necessary hides in the viv then I can put him straight into a large viv as in one ive bought recently a beech effect 6x2x2 is this true ?

Next question is how is the best way to heat a viv this size ?

would suggest heating using a IR bulb or ceramic bulb gaurded and statted with a dimmer, you cant mat a large bodied snake for the same reason as a royal may cause thermal blocking.

As for putting it in a 6ft viv right away, depends on what size the snake is, if it is very small i wouldnt be putting it into a 6 footer, so would really need to know current size to advise you better here.

Hiya

Its only approx 4 months old and at the most 18" long I would say

Was in the shop today and had a hold for 10 mins, really calm and content snake and in my eyes stands out from the others in there, looks a lot lighter and the red in the tail end is deeper, probably gonna have to get another little set up for him for now until he grows a tad to suit the 6 ft viv, from what am reading about their growth rate it won`t be too long anyway

I really like the albino and pastel pythons so it will be one of them 2 to finish the collection

Had a busy and really producive weekend as won a bargain nice 6x2x2 viv off ebay ready for the end of the year when the new boa is big enough to go in

Went to check out the quality of the vivs from the guy off ebay that I mentioned previously in another thread and ordered another 6x2x2 viv sectioned in half ready for more snakes so picking that one up next weekend

Also went back to warrington with the wife and kids this time to see the new boa feeding and what can I say, I came home with another viv under the wifes suggestion for the new boa which you never turn down so thats all assembled and sealed now, will get it all set up ready this week for collection of new boa on friday, can`t wait

Main thing is she really likes the new addition plus she saw the very large adult female in there as well so was a good time to break it to her that mine may also grow that big lol

Pics to come this weekend hopefully

I also like the look of pastels but with the exception of our cornsnake, we've tried to choose snakes which look the way they would in the wild.
My otherhalf has a thing for all things pink, hence our Ultramel Lavender corn!
