This week Living Gems Reptiles profiles another of its adults, Malachite. Malachite is a July 2008 female who hails from Texas. As of December 2010, she weighed 1454 grams.

Here she is in a sequence of three shots under different lighting:

Inside, No Flash

Inside, Flash

Outside (but on an overcast day :( )

Note the big differences each of these lighting conditions reveals.

Malachite should be a Living Gems Reptiles 2012 breeder.

Thank you for looking,

Cliff Earle

So sweet talk isn't working for you? ;-)

Catch your baby in his/her hide when it's picture time, not out and exploring. It should be curled up, if not balled up. Quickly and carefully cup the snake between your hands to get it to *stay* curled, and give it a few moments to relax. Place the snake gently on whatever surface you are using to photograph it. Hold again 'til the snake settles down. Slowly and carefully remove your hand. Take the picts quickly. You need to be able to read your snake well to get this to work, but once you get to that point it works almost every time.

Note that once the baby decides to be active, you are lost for that session.

Good luck!
