Both of my snakes are housd together for the time being and both have had these spots on their heads for 3 or 4 weeks now. They are getting better with retiwound appplied every other day and I dropped the humidity a bit.

| Sorry I forgot to finish the post..anybody ever see this before? My wife says its from rubbing up against something and so do a few other people..but then there are a few who ssay the humidity being to high might be a factor...Im leaning more towards the rubbing up against something sharp perhaps in their enclosure...any ideas thank you |

Hi and welcome to the forum.
From looking at the pic it don't look like a spot it looks like it has a scale missing either from rubbing on a sharp object or something along them lines , It will heal but will take time you could keep the wound clean and time after time with shedding it will heal but this ain't going to be something over night. |

| Ash is correct. I would add that you need to be careful about lowering the humidity for any length of time: these snakes *require* a highly humid environment, among other reasons in order to shed properly. If this is a scale issue and the humidity is too low, bad sheds could ironically make the problem worse. Just a friendly caution.... |

| The pair is kept on eco earth and they still have 2 containers inside with moistened moss. I let it dry out and now I just spray them in the morning and at night. Their heads are looking better, I was recomnded to use neosporin and the repti wound, so I alternate every 3 days. I know its not gong to heal over night but will it scar is my main concern & keeping it from getting infected in such high humidity and warmth..The scabs or whatever they are are not affecting them in any way except for the female being a bit more nippy than usual..the male has aways been a charm...Im going to separate them soon to their own enlcosures..could the female be nippy because she is in the same enclosure with the male..they ar both still under a year old or about a year old. Thanx for the welcome and info.. |

| Good that they have damp hides, that helps. Brazilians seem virtually immune to many of the moisture-caused issues that plague other species, so just keep it clean but still damp. I thought of Neosporin myself, it's worked charms for me before with head wounds. I used it daily for a while. I doubt the nipping is related to the male, more likely she's annoyed at being handled/touched more...and you just have to keep doing it. Did you ever find what they'd been rubbing up against? |

| Well a few people thought it might be a piece of hollowed out decorative bamboo..So I removed it,upon insection and feeling around inside I feel that its not the cause. So my search continued and its narrowed down to 2 things. I have 2 pieces of plexiglass along the top to help keep in moisture, it sits under the screen top. they have their heads wedged in there at night sometimes,so i removed the plexi glass and put it outside the screen top, and 1 of the plastic hides I got from a fellow herper the hole leading into the container had a rather large sharp burr or point on it..so I smoothed it out... hey Cliff thanx for the neosporin tip..you also posted on the other forum I frequent.Great to see ur on here too. |

An update on my snakes, they are both fully healed and show no scars whatsoever. They are both eating like champs and getting bigger with each shed...I actually picked up another pair of them and will be posting their pics soon. Thanx for all the help everyone

Hi Gluttony,
I'm an absolute beginner but my little BRB rubbed against the shield of the ceramic heater (though it is covered) and had a mark exactly like that. I treated it just as you have and it cleared up quickly and there is no sign at all now - and about 4 sheds later! |
